CURRY fans can still get their favourite dishes from one of Glasgow’s most iconic restaurants – but you’ll need to travel.
Foodies were heartbroken when Balbir Singh Sumal announced that he was closing his eatery in Church Street at the end of August after 17 years.
The entrepreneur has recently reopened his restaurant Route 77 in Ayrshire, with the kitchen headed up by talented chefs Satnam Singh and Rammy Darar - who have revealed they are to rekindle some of the mouthwatering dishes - such as the salmon tikka - that made Balbir's a Glasgow institution.
Owner Balbir, 71, has spoken of his plan to scale back the number of restaurants under his stewardship, and a post put on social media said that staff and management were "proud" of their time serving the city's diners.
It said: "It has been our pleasure to welcome and look after so many of you as our guests. It has been humbling to have so many guests visit us over the years.
"As many of you know, Balbir has recently reopened his restaurant Route 77. The kitchen is being headed up by our talented chefs who will continue to serve some of the Church Street favourites."
