If you’re looking for a cheap weeknight dinner and don’t want to cook, then Bloc+ should be on your radar.

The city centre restaurant, which came first place when chef Andy Neilson and hostess Pixie Brady appeared on Come Dine With Me: The Professionals earlier this year, offers a Deal Days menu with main course dishes priced between £3 and £5.

I visited the pub, which is well known for its adventurous menu, earlier this week for Pasta Monday.

The menu offers two pasta dishes priced at £3, an oven-baked macaroni and an arrabiata which is also vegan, with my dining partner and I each ordering one.

We also got a side of seasoned fries at £2.75 and garlic bread at £1.75.

The menu states the macaroni cheese is made using Bloc+’s own “indulgent” recipe and that’s definitely the right word for it.

The sauce was creamy and full of flavour, and nothing was lacking from the reduced price.

The arrabiata is said to pack a “fiery punch” and it fulfilled that promise.

I found it a little too spicy so this dish might not be for everyone but that’s based on personal preference.

The portion sizes of the pasta are perfect for a lunchtime meal, but for some people, it may be a little on the small side for dinner.

However, adding one side to share is more than enough, especially with the fries which come as a generous portion.

The basket of fries was cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside - and while they didn’t seem to be seasoned on arrival, after adding a bit of salt and mayo they were faultless.

The portion of garlic bread came with two slices and was a nice addition to the meal, though you could get by without two sides.

And it would seem I wasn’t the only person taking advantage of the Pasta Monday menu as I witnessed plenty plates of macaroni and arrabiata making their way from the kitchen while I was there.

For a Monday night, I also found Bloc+ to be much busier than expected and I imagine their cheap eats will certainly help attract a lot of people, especially students.

For what came to a total of just £10.50 for two people this is a fantastic menu, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to dine out on a budget.

The other Deal Days at Bloc+ include Burger Tuesday, Steak Wednesday, Kentucky Thursday and Bloc+ Dog Friday, as well as a reasonably priced pizza menu, and I would definitely be keen to go back and try more of these after my experience on Monday.

Bloc+ is located at 117 Bath Street and is open seven days a week.
