Hundreds of passionate young climate protesters took to the streets of Glasgow on Friday shouting ‘F**k the Tories’ on the one year anniversary since the city hosted COP26.

Protestors also hit out at Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, chanting: “Rishi is a billionaire, people die he doesn’t care, just as long as he has got, petrol for his super yacht.”

The march was organised by Fridays For Future Scotland, a group of young people under 25 who were striking from schools, colleges and universities to protest climate inaction since last year’s COP26 summit.

The protestors marched from before noon starting at Kelvin Way and finishing on George Square. They followed the same route taken last year on November 5 by thousands of protestors during COP26.

A rally following the march was expected to be held at George Square.

Adam Ballard, a 16-year-old organiser from Fridays For Future, said: “The climate crisis and the cost of living crisis have the same root: the refusal to move away from fossil fuels.

“There is no oil shortage; there is a corrupt system that prioritises profit over people.

“While ordinary people are forced to choose between heating and eating, the people in power and fossil fuel CEOs continue to make unimaginable profits.”
