An anticipated winter market is returning to Glasgow just in time for Christmas.

Spot Design Market brings together dozens of small businesses for a weekend of curated Christmas shopping alongside tasty food vendors.

Family and Dog Friendly Christmas Market

On November 26 and 27, Spot will take over Pollokshaws Burgh Hall from 11am until 4pm, turning it into a massive festive shopping centre packed with some of the best makers and artists from across Scotland and the UK.

The market is both family and dog-friendly and will have a play area set up for the wee ones.

Anna Hepburn, the founder of Spot, told the Glasgow Times: “I’m working with 50 artisans, makers, and designers which is the most we’ve worked with so far.

“It’s got everything you could want for a day out, I suppose you could think of it as the Southside in a market.

“It’s always so exciting seeing people leave with shopping bags of all their Christmas presents and some stuff for them as well.”

Support Local

The goal of Spot Design Market is to inspire people to spend money locally on their holiday shopping rather than on the high street.

Anna said: “Shopping at small businesses might be a little more expensive, and I know right now that’s quite hard, but I think items last longer and you know who it’s coming from directly.

“The money goes back into the local economy which local economies are needing and they have for a number of years now.”

She added: “The high street is being left behind, as are major shopping centres. People are shopping less there.

“So I think it’s important for us, especially to have the winter market.

“I think it’s just really important to bring these amazing people together in order to produce something that’s memorable.

“People want to keep returning knowing that their money is going to good places and supporting young makers, older makers, families, you name it.

“And I think that’s the really exciting bit of doing it, and I think that’s something that drives me too.”

Charity Christmas Cards

In addition to hosting vendors, Spot Design Market produces charity Christmas cards with the money raised going towards charities The Make Bank and Peek Project.

Anna said: “Every year we do something for charity, and the last couple of years we have done charity Christmas Cards.

“That’s a big thing for Spot because I feel like we touch on all of the things that make up a community, and giving back is a really big one.”

Entry to the market is by a suggested donation of £3 which goes towards the running of the event.
