TWO "well-established" nurseries in Glasgow have been sold following the owners' decision to retire.

Sinclair Nursery, on Sinclair Drive in Glasgow’s Southside, and Victoria Park Kindergarten, located on Dumbarton Road, in the city’s West End, were previously owned by Robert Burns and Peter Hume.

The pair have since retired and sold their businesses for an undisclosed price to Bright Stars, which owns a total of 83 nurseries, including 15 in Scotland.

Peter Hume said: “We purchased Sinclair in September 2008 and Victoria in August 2015. We would probably have retired earlier if it wasn't for the fact that the staff were amazing on both sites and made our life easy.

“We have now retired and plan to spend more time on the golf course and going on holiday.”

Mr Hume added that the sale went smoothly thanks to the help from specialist business property adviser Christie & Co, and lawyers Macdonald Henderson Solicitors.

Kirsty Ibbott, mergers and acquisition director at Bright Stars Nursery Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome two well-established nurseries into the Bright Stars nursery group, developing an even stronger support network within Glasgow, alongside our existing high-quality nurseries in Scotland.

“In keeping children’s best interests at the heart of all that we do, we look forward to supporting the nursery team and the families whilst enhancing on the foundation of these nurseries.”

Martin Daw, senior director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, added: “It was a genuine pleasure to work for Peter and Robert, having got to know them when they opened their first nursery in 2008.

“We enjoyed regular catch ups on the golf course and the timing was right to introduce them to Bright Stars earlier this year.

“With a rise in demand for good nursery places over the last 18 months, there is appetite for operators to grow within the Greater Glasgow area, and so we are likely to see increased activity throughout 2023.”
