People with the Glasgow Loves Local gift cards, issued by the council, have less than two weeks to activate the card or they lose the money.

Cards worth a total of more than three-quarters of a million pounds are yet to be activated in the city.

The cards were issued earlier this year to people on low incomes to spend on businesses within Glasgow.

While most have been activated, there are thousands still to be registered to allow them to be used.

Of the 84,000 cards that were sent out to households, the council said 91% have been activated - meaning there are still 7560 with a value of £105 each waiting to be claimed.

The total worth of the unactivated cards is £793,800, which could be spent in hundreds of shops and businesses that are signed up to the scheme.

The deadline for activation is November 30. After that date the cards will not be valid.

Local businesses and supermarkets who joined the scheme have benefited from millions of pounds in spending.

Since the cards were issued, £6.5m has been spent in Glasgow, which is 80% of the value of the 76,000 that have been activated.

Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "The Glasgow Loves Local gift cards have been a great success so far, helping businesses in the city as they recover from the pandemic and supporting eligible households during the cost-of-living crisis.

“Those households who have not yet activated their cards should do so by the end of November."
