A thug who boasted about being in prison before committing a robbery has been jailed for 12 months.

Francis Walsh, 56, spooked worker Valery Proctor at a BP garage in Glasgow's Jordanhill on September 6, 2022.

The city's sheriff court heard that Walsh engaged in "small talk" with Ms Proctor at the till.

Walsh told her: "I've been in the jail for 20 years."

He then attempted to buy items before his card was refused.

Walsh returned to the garage 45 minutes later and Ms Proctor was stated to be alarmed by him.

Walsh followed Ms Proctor behind the till and said: "Don't say anything, open the till."

Prosecutor Victoria Keel added: "Ms Proctor was extremely alarmed and in fear of her life.

"She opened the till and allowed Walsh access."

Walsh took £300 and demanded more money.

He also asked if there was a safe which there was not.

Walsh fled the scene while Ms Proctor was left "shaken up".

A 999 call was made and Walsh was later traced to his home and arrested.

On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to robbing Ms Proctor.
