The John O'Byrne Foundation got into the festive spirit by hosting a magical Christmas party.

Children were treated to visits from Santa and his reindeers along with Captain America and Princess Belle at SWG3 on Monday.

The charity's founder, John O’Byrne, from the city's Bellahouston, put on the annual bash to make sure the youngsters didn’t miss out.

The 43-year-old went above and beyond for the tots to give them a break from hospital life and a chance to enjoy some festive fun.

Pictures showed families having a blast as the children’s faces lit up when they saw Santa and the bright decorations.

Glasgow Times:

John told the Glasgow Times: “You realise how important this is for the kids.

"Some of them don’t keep well at all and won’t get to go to a normal Christmas party.

“We try to do it every year to entertain the kids and keep them as safe as we can, while having an amazing time.

“We had a kid who has been in hospital since birth who joined us for her first ever Christmas party, so to get her along here today is priceless for her parents.

“It's good to get them out of a hospital environment and into a normal one that we take for granted.

“Santa was giving them their presents plus we had reindeers, a bit of George Bowie, and everyone got a Christmas dinner as well.”

The John O’Byrne Foundation was launched almost 10 years ago in 2014 to help Scotland’s sickest children.

John has dedicated his life to giving them unforgettable experiences and memories with their families.

He became inspired to cheer up youngsters in hospital after knowing how it feels to be an unwell kid.

Glasgow Times:

We previously reported how John has broken 'every bone in his body', as he battles a brittle bone condition.

The disorder, which he has had since birth, means his bones are very weak leaving him relying on a wheelchair and being very health conscious.

It means he is always looking out for the youngsters his charity helps by giving them concert tickets, family holidays, and many more goodies.

The charity relies on donations which has been difficult during the cost-of-living crisis.

John said: “People can support us by donating on our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

“Any donations or anything at all is always appreciated.

“Especially right now, times are tough for everyone so it is hard to do fundraising.

“We will get there though.

"Arnold Clark sponsored this event and donated £2500 which is great and every kid that came to the party got a present from Santa.”
