City centre nightclub Bamboo celebrated its 20th birthday last weekend with a huge party, and owner Brian Richards commented that it was a rare landmark for a club to last so long.

For two decades, Bamboo has maintained its popularity with multiple generations of clubbers and looks set for the next 20 years with a recent revamp.

Glasgow Times:

The city centre spot is a highlight of Glasgow’s nightlife, but when it originally opened in 2002, Bamboo’s vibe was more about relaxation and comfort as a lounge bar with only one small room allocated for dancing.

It then underwent a major transformation to create a three-roomed venue catering to all musical interests, from RnB and hip-hop to electro and indie.

With the basement bouncing with music and dance until 4am, club night staples Disco Badger and WNB (Wednesday Night Bamboo) have been part of every Glasgow student's rite of passage, ensuring they never made it to their 9am lecture.

Glasgow Times:

Some of the world’s best-known DJs have performed sets in this little basement on West Regent Street, from Will Smith’s former music partner DJ Jazzy Jeff to Fedde le Grand, the legendary name behind Put Your Hands Up For Detroit.

Glasgow Times:

As well as being a popular choice for two decades’ worth of the city’s bustling student community, Bamboo has been a choice night out for famous faces including star footballers.

While the basement venue is its trademark, Bamboo has continued to evolve. Over the summer this year, the club’s iconic Red Room took on a whole new look after a massive revamp, with the same festival atmosphere the room promises plus a new sound system and new art, sound and light installations.
