Lewis Capaldi plans to 'save rock and roll' by headlining Leeds and Reading festival.

The Scots star took to social media after the iconic lineup was revealed this morning which will see him share stages with Sam Fender, The Killers and Billie Eilish.

The announcement proved controversial with some fans asking for more rock genre artists before the Someone You Loved singer stepped in.

He responded to festival fans who questioned the headlining decision by tweeting, "f**k ye, it is a dream come true."

Glasgow Times:

He quoted trolls to his 1.4 million followers before saying he can’t wait to perform at the show next year.

He tweeted: “Reading and Leeds is a ROCK festival, what the f*** is Lewis capaldi doing there?"

"Lewis Capaldi isn’t festival material.

“F*** ye. Dream come true to be one of the headliners for @OfficialRandL next year, see ye there."

He then posted: “It’s mad I’m gonna save rock and roll when I headline Reading and Leeds wtf!”

Followers were quick to reply with their thoughts.

One person said: “The fact people call it a rock festival is so wrong, since 1990 they’ve only ever had what was popular at the time, there’s been plenty of pop, rap and other genres of music there, well done Lewis very deserved headliner, you’ll smash it love ye.”

A second person said: “Reading and Leeds hasn’t been a rock festival in a long time.

“I’m a rock and emo gal and still love your vibe and so I’d be happy with you at any festival!”

A third person said: “Do a rock version of pointless.”

A fourth person said: “They're just jealous because I'm sure you have more talent in your pinky finger than some of those other acts have in their entire bodies. You're amazing Lewis.”
