A SECOND attempt to win permission to demolish a former Glasgow convent and replace it with luxury flats is under way.

Surplus Property Solutions want to knock down the empty building on Mansionhead Road in Langside and build a five-story block that includes 16 apartments and a roof terrace, as well as fully landscaping the surrounding grounds.

A design document submitted with the application states: “Our proposal for the subject site is for the creation of a residential development of private built-for-sale apartments.

“Proposals prioritise amenity space, both communal and private, with the integration of a large rooftop area and extensive balconies for every home within the development.”

Almost 80 objections to the proposal have been received by the city council - but local authority officers have recommended it is given the green light.

A previous application by another developer for 20 flats was refused by city planners for a string of reasons, including overdevelopment and lack of onsite amenities.

A final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
