A POLLOK primary school has been praised for its staff team who “show care and consideration for children” after a recent inspection.

A review of St Marnock’s Primary, on Langton Crescent, found that teachers’ use of “relevant and real-life learning” helped motivate pupils to learn.

The inspection, by Education Scotland, also concluded that a key strength of St Marnock’s was its “welcoming, friendly children who are proud of their school” and who “engage enthusiastically in learning and demonstrate a particular interest in numeracy and mathematics".

The staff team was also praised for “supporting each other well to take forward new developments".

However, the inspection also identified areas for improvement, including the need to “ensure the pace of learning is brisker and planned at the right level of difficulty for all children".

The report, published on Tuesday, added the school should “continue to develop approaches to assessment and sharing standards which enable teachers to take a greater role in identifying children’s next steps in learning and improve how assessment data and other key information are used to help to ensure that all children are making the best possible progress".

Education Scotland added: “As a result of our inspection findings, we think that the school needs additional support and more time to make necessary improvements."

The officials plan to return to St Marnock’s Primary within a year to carry out a further inspection.
