PLANS to open a community cafe in a historic building in North Glasgow have been lodged.

Gathering Ground hopes to run the small eatery in Old Basin House, Applecross Street.

The non-profit organisation aims to create gathering spaces that use food as a platform to impact the community, build connections and inspire people to engage with good food.

Scottish Canals was previously awarded funding to undertake extensive reconstruction and refurbishment of the building, which was built around 1790.

Gathering Ground, a non-profit organisation, has been given a lease.

It plans to run a small cafe with a "simple" menu, with no use of gas or commercial frying equipment.

A sample menu consists of the following:

  • Hot Drinks (Coffee, Tea etc)
  • Cold Drinks
  • Baked Goods (Produced Off Site)
  • Sandwiches
  • Toasties
  • Soups
  • Stews

A statement within planning documents read: "The presence of Gathering Ground in Old Basin House will be a significant step in the ongoing regeneration of the North Glasgow canal corridor.

"Provision of a community café should be a welcome addition to the area. Gathering Ground's other uses within the building will also make a positive contribution to the area, through placemaking and providing services to the local community."

Proposed opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 9am-6pm.

Plans are set to be granted or rejected by April 28.
