HOMEHUNTERS are being given the chance to snap up a flat within one of Glasgow’s most iconic buildings – for just over £100,000.
The one bedroom property is situated with the former Beresford Hotel on Sauchiehall Street – and is going under the hammer at auction next week.
The B-listed Beresford building, which first opened as a hotel in 1938, was described by historians as Glasgow’s first ever skyscraper and was the tallest building in the city for several years.
It is on located on the fifth floor of the distinctive Art Deco-style building and offers incredible views over the city, with bids starting at just £110,000.
It features a living room/kitchen, double bedroom, shower room with a three-piece suite and storage off the hall.

The building is accessed via a secure entry which opens onto a unique Art Deco-inspired entrance foyer and there is lift to all floors, as well as a covered walkway.
The renowned Beresford building has been transformed several times in its long and proud history, going from a trendsetting hotel to student halls before becoming the private apartments it is today.
When first operating as a hotel, it was a favoured stayover location for American servicemen during the Second World War on their way to or from Europe.
In 1939, John F. Kennedy - the soon-to-be American president – gave a speech at there, his first public address in a career that would peak in the White House.
Just 22 at the time, JFK gave the address of behalf of his father, then-US Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, to try and smooth things over after the Govan built-ship the Athenia was sunk by a German U-boat at the outbreak of the war.

Unusually, the hotel’s architect, William Beresford Inglis, of Weddell & Inglis, was also its owner and managing director.
After demand for hotel accommodation declined after the war, the building became an office block before The University of Strathclyde purchased it in 1964, transforming it into student accommodation and renaming it ‘Baird Hall’.
It was then sold in 2003 and converted into private apartments.
The Beresford building flat is going under the hammer at Auction House Scotland’s in-room auction at 2pm on March 23 at the Radisson RED hotel, 25 Tunnel Street, Glasgow.
