A SUPERMARKET delivery driver has been hailed a hero after helping to save a woman's life.

Cammy Sherlock was dropping off shopping to one of his regular customer's in Airdrie when he noticed the woman had taken seriously ill.

The quick-thinking Asda worker stepped in to provide vital help to stabilise the lady until paramedics arrived.

The 26-year-old, who has been a driver working from the firm's Cumbernauld store for the last three years, said: “She was so pale; whiter than the walls. She was staggering about a bit and bumping into things, clearly in distress.

"I asked her if she was okay and if she wanted me to call anyone. She said she just needed to go to bed, but I knew something wasn't right."

Glasgow Times:

Cammy acted quickly and decided to call 999 and an ambulance crew rushed to the scene before providing medical care to the woman, who is in her late forties.

He said: "I’m just glad she got the help and treatment that she needed. It was the right thing to do as it could easily have been a different story."

Now Cammy has been commended by his colleagues and received a regional Asda service superstar award for his caring actions.

He adds: "Getting this was a real surprise. It was something I never expected, although it felt good to be recognised."

Cammy, whose aunt Lynn Deakin is shopping section leader with the same store, says he loves interacting with his customers.

He added: "There are some great people out there and it's nice to have a wee catch up with them when they get their shopping. For some of them, we may be the only person they see in a week. Your heart kind of bleeds for them, so I was just glad that on this occasion I was the right person in the right place at the right time to help."
