ALESHA MacPhail’s killer is studying for exams before he moves to an adult jail.

Aaron Campbell, 20, is thought to have recently sat his prelims after being tutored by staff at Fife College, the Scottish Sun is reporting.

A source at Polmont Young Offenders Institution, where the killer is based, said: “All Campbell has been doing is studying as he has exams coming up.

"He still doesn’t leave his cell to mix with the other lags so he has had plenty of time to revise.

“He had no qualifications when he was jailed and then had a fall-out with the education unit earlier on in his sentence.

“It’s only recently he has gone back to his studies.

"It seems it’s part of the preparation for a move when he turns 21.

"But he’ll remain Scotland’s most hated prisoner regardless of what jail he’s in — there will always be a target on his back.”

Campbell was described by a judge as “cold, calculating, remorseless and dangerous” when he was convicted of the abduction, rape and murder of the six-year-old in 2018.

He was 16 when he snatched Alesha, who lived in Airdrie, from her bed as she visited family on the Isle of Bute.

He will be moved to an adult jail in May when he turns 21.
