AN EAST End pub is among the finalists who are up for the title of best in the UK.

The Gate in the city's Gallowgate has been named top in the city and could also be crowned the best in the country at this year's National Pub and Bar Awards. 

One pub in each of the UK's 94 counties will go on to compete for the overall title at the final in London on June 28.

The Boarding House in Johnstone has been deemed the best in Renfrewshire, while The Cartvale in Busby has earned the title for East Renfrewshire. 

The Electric Bar in Motherwell was named best in North Lanarkshire and The Strathaven in Strathaven beat the competition in South Lanarkshire. 

In East Dunbartonshire, The Stables in Kirkintilloch has been named a finalist, while the Tullie Inn in Alexandria earned the title for West Dunbartonshire. 

The National Pub and Bar Awards is held annually by the Pub and Bar magazine and rewards venues for their overall retail excellence, best practices and individual entrepreneurship.

Fifteen pubs will be taking home a regional title, and other awards include Pub Brand of the Year, Bar Brand of the Year, Pub Chef of the Year and Sustainable Pub and Bar of the Year.
