A FILM festival is set to be held in Glasgow during the school Easter holidays.

NSPCC-led project Together for Childhood has joined forces with Govan and Linthouse Parish Church and We Together Community Interest Company (CIC) to host the Screen 51 Film Festival in Govan.

For the first time ever, the 19th-century Govan and Linthouse Parish Church will be transformed into an independent cinema and will screen some of last year's biggest blockbuster hits, including Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis and Matilda the Musical.

In total, the event will host three feature films, three fringe and two free family-friendly screenings.

It has been organised in response to the cost-of-living crisis and has been supported by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Lauren Engall, children services practitioner for Govan Together for Childhood, said: "The Screen 51 team have delivered a brilliant programme.

"This is a great opportunity for children and families across Govan and beyond to come together as a community, be connected and have the opportunity to enjoy a fun-packed programme."

"We are excited to promote our venue in new and worthwhile ways, which provide high-quality arts events for the local community and beyond.

"Screen 51 Film Festival is set to be a highlight of our calendar year."

Matthew O’Donnell, managing director for We Together CIC, said: "We're thrilled that 2023 marks Screen 51’s premiere to the big screens of Govan, giving audiences the opportunity to experience a rich programme of new films and classic cinema that celebrates creativity and community."

The Govan Together for Childhood partnership is an NSPCC-led long-term project that works with other organisations and families to make the community a better place for children and to prevent abuse and neglect.

Screen 51 Film Festival will run from April 13 to 16 at Govan Linthouse Parish Church.

Tickets for the family films will be free to ensure it is accessible for everyone, and free snacks will be available for the children attending.

Other tickets will be priced on a sliding scale from FREE, £2.50, £5, £7.50 or £10, along with a recommendation of what people might choose to pay according to their personal circumstances and can be booked at screen51.square.site
