TWO huge military aircraft were spotted in the skies on Monday.

A number of residents across Clydebank and Dumbarton took to social media to share pictures and videos after spotting the Chinook helicopters in the air at around 6pm.

There was however a simple reason for the helicopters to be out.

The aircraft - from RAF Odiham - were completing routine operational training and low flying in the area.

Stacey O'Hara managed to capture footage of the helicopters as they flew over the Golden Jubilee Hospital.

Ms O'Hara said that they were so loud that it sounded as though they were landing in her garden.

There were sightings of the huge aircraft in Knightswood, Clydebank, Dumbarton, Arrochar, and Stirling.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "Two RAF Chinook from RAF Odiham, Hants completed routine operational training and low flying in Central and West Scotland yesterday, such training ensuring that our crews continue to be ready for global operations."
