A MAN is accused of raping a woman after allegedly shutting her inside the barbers where he worked.

Barzan Nawshowani is said to have carried out the sex attack on August 7, 2022.

The 38-year-old faces an initial charge that he operated a private hire taxi without a licence on that date.

The rape allegation then claims he followed the woman in his motor on Duke Street in Glasgow's Dennistoun putting her in a "state of fear and alarm".

Nawshowani is said to have caused her to enter KS Turkish Barbers there - described on the indictment as his "place of work".

It is alleged he activated electronic shutters stopping the woman from leaving.

Prosecutors claim she was "detained against her will".

Nawshowani is accused of going on to rape the woman, which allegedly included her lower clothes being pulled down and her being pushed onto a worktop.

He faces a third charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice amid claims he deleted CCTV footage from the barbers.

Lawyers for Nawshowani pled not guilty on his behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.

His advocate Sarah Livingstone and prosecutor Ali Murray agreed a trial could be set.

Lady Stacey went on to state: "I will fix a trial for five days for January 22, 2024 in Glasgow."
