A MAN who raped a sleeping woman could be facing a life sentence.

Ismail Ibrahim carried out the sex attack at a flat in Glasgow's Possilpark on May 14, 2021.

The 35-year-old was convicted of raping the woman to her injury.

Ibrahim appeared at Glasgow High Court on Thursday to face sentencing.

His lawyer Dale Hughes said: "He came as a refugee from difficult circumstances in Sudan.

"His status was that his leave to remain had expired.

"He is, what can be described as, an overstayer."

Judge William Gallacher then stated a pre-sentencing social work report had suggested a risk assessment on Ibrahim be completed.

This could lead to an Order for Lifelong Restriction being imposed.

Judge Gallacher adjourned the case again until July for that to be done.

He told Ibrahim: "As far as this case, I cannot sentence today.

"This is because from the information presented to me, it may be you have shown a pattern of behaviour suggesting you may endanger the lives or well-being of members of the public.

"I am bound to consider an Order for Lifelong Restriction in your case.

"I will make an order for a risk assessment report."

Ibrahim remains in custody meantime.
