GLASGOW will mark the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla with a week of celebration across the city.

The historic occasion is being honoured at a number of official and community events including a glittering concert and a veterans’ parade.

A Book of Congratulations for HM The King will be open to the public in Glasgow City Chambers, from May 2 to 5 from 9am until 5pm.

On May 4, from 4pm until 6pm, Sandyford Church in Finnieston will be hosting Coronation cakes, tea and coffee.

On May 5, from 7pm, Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren will host Glasgow's Coronation Concert in the Glasgow City Chambers Banqueting Hall.

Led by Scottish classical music star Jamie MacDougall, it will feature the RSNO Chorus, Glasgow Chamber Orchestra and musicians and singers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. It is free to attend, but must be booked via Eventbrite in advance.

Also on May 5, The Merrylea Parish singing group for people with dementia and their carers is inviting the community in to the Southside church to celebrate with them, from 2pm until 3.30pm.

On the day of the Coronation, Glasgow Cathedral is hosting a live stream of the event from Westminster Abbey, where the Lord Lieutenant will represent Glasgow.

The King’s Coronation and Victory in Europe Parade, hosted by SSAFA Scotland, will begin at 10.40am with a short service at the Veterans Monument in Knightswood.

At 11.30am, veterans, led by Coalburn Silver Band, will march to the Lincoln Public House at 2131 Great Western Road. All veterans and the general public are welcome.

From 11am until 3pm on May 6, Coronation in the Park will include fun and games in Robroyston Park, an autism-friendly space in the Recreation Hall on Quarrywood Avenue and an afternoon tea with entertainment in the Residents’ Centre on Quarrywood Road.

On Sunday, May 7, starting at 9.45am, there will be an official Coronation Parade from George Square to Glasgow Cathedral. A service of thanksgiving will take place at Glasgow Cathedral at 11am.

Several churches around Glasgow are holding Coronation lunches and celebrations after morning service on Sunday, May 7, including Springburn Parish Church, Williamwood Parish Church, Clincarthill Parish Church in Mount Florida, Merrylea Parish Church and Carmyle and Kenmuir Mount Vernon Churches.

A number of events, including the Coronation Big Lunch and The Big Help Out, will bring communities together over the special Bank Holiday Coronation weekend.

The Coronation Big Lunch encourages people to share lunch together in parks, gardens and community spaces (resources are available from edenprojectcommunities.com).

On Monday, May 8, Croftfoot Parish Church is hosting a Coronation Afternoon Tea from 2pm until 4pm.

The Big Help Out, from May 8, aims to highlight the positive impact of volunteering.

Elder, Govan and Linthouse Parish Church is hosting a Big Help Out event from 11am until 2pm. Everyone is invited along to take part in a litter pick and to plant wildflowers at Govan Cross.

Volunteers will also have a chance to view an exhibition curated by community art group, Shades of Wonder.
