A new mental health app has been launched in Glasgow.

MyApp: My Mental Health was curated by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and offers self-management resources on a range of mental health matters including anxiety, eating disorders, stress and self-harm.

There are also dedicated sections for carers, children and young people.

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week beginning on May 15, it is known that one in six adults in the UK has a mental health disorder, with anxiety and depression being the most common.

The app aims to provide vital support for people who are turning to online resources for help with their mental health and well-being and give them a reliable, safe source of information that can be tricky to find on the internet.

Consultant Psychiatrist Nagore Penades, clinical lead for mental health at the West of Scotland Innovation Hub, said: “This app is a new way for people who are experiencing difficulties to take a first step in dealing with them.

“All the resources used in the app are from approved NHS sources, so users and clinicians alike can be assured that the advice being offered is evidence-based and appropriate.

“Good quality, validated and clinically effective self-management materials should already be freely available to the public, so we aimed to curate and compile a library of trustworthy and reliable resources offering not only information about common mental health symptoms and conditions but also materials to help manage them.

“Our vision is to make this a library that meets the needs of the Scottish population and the place to go to for reliable mental health information and help. A live resource that we can shape between all of us.”

This mental health toolkit can be accessed by downloading the Right Decisions: Health & Care app from Google Play Store or Apple iTunes and searching for MyApp.
