A fire broke out within a block of flats sparking an emergency response.

Flames could be seen pouring out of the window of a flat in Witchwood Court, Coatbridge on Tuesday evening.

Local councillor Kirsten Larson shared news of the incident on her Facebook page and said that there did not appear to be anyone injured by the blaze.

Police Scotland confirmed that they were made aware of the fire and that officers provided assistance at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.15pm on Tuesday, May 2 to reports of a dwelling fire on Lomond Road, Coatbridge.

"Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and multiple specialist resources to a fire affecting a flat on the 12th floor of a multi-storey building.

"Crews extinguished the fire and remain on the scene to ensure the area is safe.

"There are no reported casualties."
