THE host of a UK concert series dedicated to one of music’s biggest stars has said it is “like being back on tour with Elvis.”

Jerry Schilling, who was one of Presley’s closest friends and colleagues, fronts The Very Best of Elvis In Concert Live on Screen, which comes to the OVO Hydro in Glasgow in October.

Jerry was portrayed by Australian actor Luke Bracey in last year’s Oscar-nominated biopic of the King.

The full-scale concert brings Elvis up close on screen as the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performs some of his most well-known “rocking” songs and his tender, heart-wrenching ballads.

Organisers say it gives fans the chance to see their idol “live”, adding: “Elvis never toured the UK nor performed with a full-sized orchestra, which were two of his dreams, so these shows are a chance to honour the legacy of an icon who has defined popular culture for more than half a century.”

Jerry will share personal stories and memories behind the historic moments in Elvis’ life.  He had been friends with the star since he was 12 and became a business associate and member of Elvis’ inner circle, dubbed “the Memphis Mafia”, as well as becoming a music manager in his own right for the likes of the Beach Boys.

Jerry said: “It is truly an honour for me to be returning to the UK hosting Elvis in Concert with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

“When I did it four years ago, I felt as though I was back on tour with Elvis, especially from the enthusiastic response from all the fans.”

Elvis Presley changed the course of music, selling an unparalleled one billion records worldwide.

The collaboration between the music of Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra has led to three huge-selling and critically acclaimed albums (If I Can Dream, The Wonder of You, and Christmas with Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) in which the original recordings of Elvis’s voice are married with new orchestral arrangements of his music.

The Very Best of Elvis In Concert Live on Screen is at the OVO Hydro on October 25.
