A Glasgow M&S store has announced plans to expand its space.

Marks and Spencer's Foodhall in the city's West End Retail Park will add a 15,000 square feet extension to the existing layout of the supermarket.

New additions to the Anniesland store will include a new bakery, new Scan and Shop features, and a dedicated wine shop.

As ongoing work will be contained to a unit next to the store, the shop will not close and customers will face as little disruption as possible.

Ahead of the expansion, M&S is looking for new staff and it is expected that around 20 new roles will be created.

In particular, the retail giant is working with local employability schemes including the Marks and Start programme in partnership with The Prince’s Trust, to help young people aged between 16 and 30 find employment.

Store manager Michael Sweeney said: “Our local community really is at the heart of M&S, so to be able to create these new job opportunities in Glasgow is truly fantastic.

"We are working closely with local job centres and employability schemes to find and train the best applicants from the local area for the wide variety of roles that are available, including bakers and customer assistants.

"If you’re interested in joining the team at our exciting, expanding store in Glasgow, please do visit the M&S Jobs website and apply online now!”

The store is located at West End Retail Park, Crow Road, Glasgow, G11 7RY and is expected to fully open in Autumn 2023.

Applications are open on the store's website now and can be viewed here

It comes after we reported that the retailer introduced a similar extension within its Bishopbriggs store, which also involved the closure of the store's cafe.

A petition was launched in reaction to the decision, with many feeling that closing the cafe was removing a 'social hub' for locals.
