The award recognises the very best of Scotland's outdoor areas, with the International Green Flag Award acting as a benchmark for clean, safe and well-maintained parks and green spaces.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “We’re delighted that the Botanics have retained their Green Flag Award for the 13th year.

“We take great pride in our Dear Green Place and appreciate the huge role our parks and greenspaces play in enhancing and protecting natural habitats for biodiversity, fostering the physical and mental health of residents as well as tackling climate change.

“The Green Flag Awards provide national recognition of all the hard work that goes into nurturing the city’s flora and fauna and making greenspaces like the Botanics safe, welcoming and productive places not only for people but for nature and wildlife too.

"Staff at the Botanics work with conservation experts around the world to protect and cultivate rare and endangered plants which is globally important work to safeguard species facing extinction.

“Congratulations to all our staff and the friends of group who have worked so hard to earn this important environmental accolade.”

Administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful, the Green Flag Award supports the opportunities that our green spaces provide to enable exercise, improve mental wellbeing and provide safe spaces for play.

Colin Mackie, Chairperson for Friends of Southern Necropolis, said: “Friends of Southern Necropolis are really pleased having once again achieved the Keep Scotland Beautiful Community Green Flag award, as this is recognition of all the hard work and dedication from our team of volunteers.

"The cemetery has become a much valued and important asset to the local community and visitors alike, and there are so many ways in which people can benefit from being within this unique and special ‘window on time’ to the history and heritage of the Gorbals and Glasgow.”

Dorothy Buchanan, Chair of Friends of Linn Park, said: “Friends of Linn Park are delighted to receive the Green Flag Award for their wildlife trail for the fourth consecutive year.

"We know the trail is well-used and well-loved in the park and it is nice to reward the hard work of the volunteers with the Green Flag. Applying for the award each year has become a useful way to keep us focused on what the trail needs to stay interesting! Thank you.”
