Janey Godley has shared a throwback picture with fans saying she thought she was “obese”.

The 62-year-old Glasgow comedian posted a picture of herself in Tunisia on a beach holiday in 1998 on Twitter for her 291k followers.

The image showed the beautiful Janey smiling while wearing a purple Tigger t-shirt but sadly revealed at that time she felt she “shouldn’t wear a swimsuit”.

We previously reported how the funny woman has been open about her body image struggles in the past.

She made an emotional post earlier this year explaining how she had “hated” her body for years and never felt “thin” enough for society which went on to trigger food issues in the late 70s.

Now she is focusing on body positivity by sharing the old image of her on holiday.

Janey tweeted: “Tunisia 1998 I genuinely believed I was obese and shouldn’t wear a swimsuit in public.”

She also shared a snap of her enjoying a trip to Centre Parcs saying “I had my mammies legs” around 1987.

Fans were quick to support the comedian by sharing their thoughts on her summer throwback pictures and encourage more women to feel confident.

Polly Jack tweeted: “I understand totally! You looked far from obese & had a cute figure. I too look back at old photos of myself and wonder why I always thought I had to lose weight! I wish I weighed what I did back then, now! Thin was in back in the 70s for sure & did a number on us!”

Amanda tweeted: “I would love to be able to tell my younger self to go out and just have fun. I had so many hang ups.

“I was very tall and people mentioned it all the time.

“A hurtful comment made by my manager at age 16, ruined my self confidence.”

Miss Otis tweeted: “Looking back at the things we were made to believe about ourselves, just so that we'd buy the magazines, buy the latest weight-loss books, buy the creams and the lotions and the pills ... It's mind-boggling.”

Druklet tweeted: “We all believed ridiculous things when we were younger. Hope you know how stunning you were, are and always will be!”
