A PRISONER who admitted stabbing a man in front of three "screaming children" has died behind bars. 

Ryan Lafferty carried out the brutal murder bid on Alan Barr at the victim's flat in Milton, Glasgow, on January 29, 2022. 

Lafferty handed himself into police days after the attack and pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder as well as threatening behaviour at Glasgow High Court in August last year before being sentenced at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed Lafferty died in HMP Shotts on Wednesday, August 1 at age 33.

Police Scotland have been informed and the matter has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal. 

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held. 

An SPS spokesperson said: "Ryan Lafferty, 33, a prisoner at HMP Shotts has died on Wednesday, August 1 2023.

"He was sentenced at Inverness Sheriff Court in 2022.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
