EAST End residents were evacuated from their homes following the discovery of "potentially hazardous substances". 

Emergency services attended a flat on Thomas Street, Dennistoun, at around 10.25pm last night following what police have called a "possible gas leak".

The street was closed between Duke Street and Reidvale Street and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. 

The possible leak was made safe and the road was reopened at around 12.40am and residents were allowed to return home.  

A 52-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. 

His condition is not known. 

Police said there was no risk to the wider public. 

​A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police received a report of a possible gas leak within a flat on Thomson Street, Glasgow, around 10.25pm on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

"Emergency services attended and the possible leak was made safe.

"A 52-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

"There was no risk to the public and local residents have been able to return to their properties."
