Glasgow homes evacuated as 'potentially hazardous substances' found

Emergency services attended a flat on Thomas Street, Dennistoun, at around 10.25pm last night following what police have called a "possible gas leak".

The street was closed between Duke Street and Reidvale Street and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. 

Thomas Street has re-opened after potentially hazardous substances were found within a flat. The area has been deemed safe and there is no risk to the public. The possible leak was made safe and the road was reopened at around 12.40am and residents were allowed to return home.  

A 52-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. 

His condition is not known. 

Police said there was no risk to the wider public. 

​A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police received a report of a possible gas leak within a flat on Thomson Street, Glasgow, around 10.25pm on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

"Emergency services attended and the possible leak was made safe.

"A 52-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

"There was no risk to the public and local residents have been able to return to their properties."
