A UK supermarket giant's charity has reached a milestone, donating £40 million to thousands of charities, with many Glasgow causes among those chosen.

Since 2015, the Morrisons Foundation has helped a host of different charities in Glasgow with projects ranging from buying equipment for disadvantaged children to helping get treatment and research for children with active Crohn’s disease.

Having raised £40 million since starting the foundation, more than 3000 projects have benefitted.

Venture Scotland is one of the Glasgow charities, awarded a grant worth £9,743 for equipment that will go to helping people aged 16-30 improve their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Robin Jeffery, Venture Scotland's outdoor delivery manager, said: "Our ‘Journey’ programme uses challenging outdoor activities to help young people leave behind the pressures of their lives, connect with themselves, their fellow programme participants and in the unique beauty of Scotland's wild spaces, achieve lasting personal change.

"The generous grant from the Morrisons Foundation allowed our young people to continue to experience the transformative effect of the outdoors!"

Other charities that have benefited from donations were Tollcross YMCA, The Scottish Pantry Network ,Clyde FC Community Foundation and the Catherine McEwan Foundation which received £21,000 to help with the treatment and research for children with active Crohn’s disease.

David Scott, Morrisons Foundation trustee said: “I’m immensely proud that since 2015 the Morrisons Foundation has been able to donate £40 million to make a positive difference to the lives of people in communities across the country, just like the vital work delivered by these wonderful causes in Glasgow."

A donation of £1,300 was also given to The Moira Anderson Foundation, an Airdrie charity that provides support and therapeutic services to children and adults affected by childhood abuse, to renovate their counselling rooms.
