Deliveroo has been granted permission to deliver alcohol in Glasgow from its restaurant partners.

Deliveroo Editions, which operates nine ‘dark kitchens’ from premises in the south of the city applied to deliver alcohol with food.

Glasgow’s licensing Board granted the bid after hearing from the operators.

The move means customers ordering food from Deliveroo Editions can have drinks delivered to their home at the same time.

Concerns were raised with the board about alcohol being delivered for unregulated consumption at home and health harms caused by home drinking.

But councillors gave the go-ahead for operators Michael Anderson and Chris Ash for their drivers and riders to start delivering booze.

Robin Morton, representing the operators, said deliveries would stop at 11pm and argued that it would not pose a risk to public health.

It was also stated that alcohol could only be ordered with food and that it would be sold at restaurant prices, higher than retail off-sales, and there is public access to the kitchens site.

He cited an example as £5 for a beer.

The licensing board was told all staff would be suitably trained and Deliveroo was ultimately responsible for upholding licence conditions.

Concerns about unregulated access to alcohol and no one supervising the sale were raised which the firm said has been addressed.

Mr Morton added: “There is an interaction with the driver and if someone is underage or drunk they won’t deliver.”

He added that they would also look at placing limits on orders.
