TWO overlooked pooches, who have been in the care of Dogs Trust Glasgow for around two years, have had their portraits drawn by an artist.

Gary Brightside caught the happy faces of rescue dogs Jack and Captain with the hope the works of art might help them find their forever homes.

Long-term lodger Jack, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, arrived at the centre in April 2021 due to concerns for his welfare while Captain, a Staffie Cross, arrived in December 2021 after his previous owner could no longer care for him.

Both dogs will celebrate their 10th birthday before Christmas.

Gary, from Coventry, started drawing portraits of the canines in the Dogs Trust care in 2019 as it is a cause close to his heart.

He says it was a "pleasure" to draw Jack and Captain because of their "happy faces".

Glasgow Times:

Gary said: "I have had the privilege of having two dogs in my life, both of which were adopted from Dogs Trust Rehoming Centres.

"Bernie and Reggie became part of our family and my heart so drawing dogs in the charity’s care allows me to do what I love whilst sharing current residents waiting to find forever homes.

"I love to draw a wide variety of breeds to show that there really is a rescue dog out there for everyone.

"I am, however, always particularly drawn to those dogs who may have been overlooked for a long time and are most in need of a forever home.

"Jack and Captain have such happy faces and yet have been waiting to be adopted for months so it was my pleasure to draw them.

"I would be thrilled if my drawings help them catch the eye of a potential adopter."

Sandra Downie, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, added: "The drawings of Jack and Captain are amazing and capture the wonderful spirit of both boys.

"We have printed the portraits and displayed them on their kennels, and we are sure they will receive many positive comments from visitors.

"It often makes no sense why certain dogs in our care don’t attract more interest and therefore spend longer with us.

"Jack and Captain are firm favourites with the staff here due to their loving natures and individual personalities.

"They just need someone to give them a chance to find out how truly special they are.

"We hope Gary’s drawings might be the very thing to help them find their special someone and thank Gary for his fantastic support."
