A MAN has been warned by a sheriff after being caught with a weapon for the second time.

Louis Gibb, 29, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week charged with being in possession of a knuckle duster on August 1, 2023.

The court heard that cops were on patrol on Cathcart Road when they observed a Corsa vehicle. They approached and could smell cannabis.

Officers searched the vehicle and came across a holdall-style bag. Within it was the knuckle duster.

Gibb, whose address was listed as West Sussex, admitted it belonged to him and he was cautioned and charged.

Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: “This is not the first time he's been caught with a knuckle duster.“

Gibb’s lawyer asked the sheriff to impose a punishment that was an alternative to custody.

She replied: “I’m content to do that, but I didn’t like his excuse as to why he had it. I’m prepared to deal with it by supervision and unpaid work.”

The sheriff told Gibb: “Whilst you have a limited record, it’s concerning it’s the second reported time you’ve been in possession of a weapon such as this.”

He was ordered to be under social work supervision for 18 months and carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Pryce added: “If you don’t comply you may well go to jail.”
