A NEW Post Office has been officially opened in Bellshill town centre with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Post Office has opened at a permanent location inside a brand new SPAR store on Main Street following a joint investment from Omar Nasir and Asif Sardar who are both Postmasters in Motherwell.

The new store is located inside the former M&Co unit.

Glasgow Times:

They 'cut the ribbon' at a community celebration on Friday, November 3 which had goody bags up for grabs as well as signed football shirts from Rangers FC legend Ally McCoist, Celtic legend Henrik Larsson and a Motherwell FC team signed top.

A TV and two £50 vouchers were raffled for charity and children enjoyed free face painting.

After hearing the former Postmaster for Bellshill was resigning as their lease at 224-226 Main Street was expiring in August 2022, Omar opened a temporary Post Office at Bellshill Shopping Centre in September of that year.

Glasgow Times:

When M&Co went into administration there was the opportunity to take on the new premises.

Omar said: "It has been a big investment, but we’re really pleased with how the project has turned out.

"We’ve made good use of the space for retail, leisure and much-needed accommodation.

"The community is delighted to have a permanent Post Office again in a great looking SPAR convenience store.

"Lots of the banks have closed and we do lots of business and personal banking. We are all geared up for Christmas."

Glasgow Times:

For the redevelopment at 250-256 Main Street, the ground floor has been subdivided with half the space becoming Bellshill Post Office and SPAR while the remaining space is available to let for a takeaway, restaurant or gym.

Upstairs, a boxing gym has been opened while four flats have been renovated after being unused for 40 years.

The new Post Office has an enhanced range of products and services available, including the addition of a comprehensive range of Travel Money, Passport Check & Send, Vehicle Tax and On Demand Travel Insurance.

Glasgow Times:

David Duff, Post Office network provision manager, said: "We are delighted to have restored a permanent Post Office, with extended opening hours, to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

"The branch’s opening hours make it convenient for customers to visit.

"I want to congratulate Omar Nasir and Asif Sardar for their big re-development project, which has breathed new life into the heart of Bellshill Town Centre."

The main Post Office counters will be open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 2pm on Saturday.

There are additional hours at the Post Office counter alongside the retail counter, pricing selected services from 5.30pm to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday.
