Winston Churchill

Former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who led the United Kingdom during the Second World War (and for a time after), used the hotel as a base of operations in 1949 when visiting the city to address a crowd of Unionists at Ibrox.

John F. Kennedy

Future United States president John F. Kennedy once stayed at the Grand Central Hotel as a young man after he was sent off to meet the survivors of a sunken Govan-built passenger liner targetted by a German U-boat in 1939.

He was to address 150 American citizens rescued from the wreckage after they were put up in the Beresford Hotel on Sauchiehall Street.

This was his first public engagement and is seen by many as his first step on the road to the White House.

Frank Sinatra

The late Frank Sinatra stayed at the Grand Central Hotel in the 1990s when he was invited to perform as part of Glasgow's City of Culture celebrations.

The famous crooner, who is well known for hits like My Way and Fly Me To The Moon, performed at Ibrox.
