LESSONS will be learned as a result of the horrific Glasgow child sex abuse ring prosecution that saw seven people jailed.

Glasgow City Council confirmed on Wednesday that there will be Case Learning Review - which will involve all agencies working on the case rather than just one – after the conclusion of a harrowing nine-week trial at the High Court.

Iain Owens, 45, Elaine Lannery, 39, Lesley Williams, 41, Paul Brannan, 41, Barry Watson, 47, John Clark, 47, and Scott Forbes, 50, were all convicted of a string of offences, including raping children, at a property in the city dubbed ‘the beastie house’ by locals.

Questions have been asked about the role of social services as it emerged staff made daily visits to the property. Jurors heard how abused and malnourished kids were left to beg for food in nearby streets, sparking fears for their safety.

Colin Anderson, Independent Chair of Glasgow’s Child Protection Committee, said a full investigation will now be launched.

He said: “This has been a highly complex case and this next step is what the legislation and government guidance requires.

“The circumstances of the children involved will be subject to a Case Learning Review, in accordance with the Scottish Government National Guidance for Child Protection Committees Undertaking Learning Reviews.

“It is therefore inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
