COPS have provided an update on the mystery surrounding 'loud banging noises' in Paisley.

It comes after officers say they have received reports of noises at various times in the Glenburn area of the town recently.

The force claims that while they have carried out enquiries into the loud banging, they are unable to confirm what it is.

However, they believe it may be from a pest-scaring device.

Now, they are looking for anyone using a bird scarer or similar device to get in touch.

Meanwhile, one resident claimed the loud noises were coming from a motorist's exhaust.

While another said: "It's been going on all day. The police were out and stationed at Grants Estate trying to figure out where it was coming from and logging it every time it went off.

"They also did door-to-door. It's still going on - sounds like a loud shot gun being fired."

A spokesperson for Renfrewshire Police said: "We are aware of reports of loud banging sounds heard at various times in the Glenburn area of Paisley in recent days.

"Officers have carried out enquiries and, while the source of the noises hasn’t been completely confirmed, it is believed to be a pest-scaring device. We have had not had any reports to suggest any criminality.

"If you are using a bird scarer or similar device in the area we’d be grateful if you could call 101, quoting reference 1597 of November 14."
