A man is in hospital after a daylight attack in Glasgow's East End days before Christmas. 

Cops closed Westmuir Street in Parkhead on Thursday after the man was seriously assaulted.

Horrified witnesses told the Glasgow Times the man was "stabbed in the neck" and was "covered in blood".

Our reporter arrived at the scene around 1pm, and saw police vans and a car block off the area as probes continued.

Police have not yet confirmed if the assault involved any weapons at this stage.

Emergency services rushed the man to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Officers remained stationed in the area with police tape closing down the street.

One person said: “A man was stabbed in the neck. It was awful, in the middle of the day as well. It makes you feel really unsafe.”

A second person said: “I saw a man covered in blood, he looked in a really bad way. I believe he had been stabbed and was badly hurt.”

A third person added: “So horrible for this sort of thing to happen so close to Christmas. Police are everywhere and the full area has been shut down. It has been horrendous.”

A fourth witness said: “I saw a lot of blood and heard a man was stabbed in front of people in the middle of the afternoon. It is terrifying.”

The force did not confirm how the man sustained his injuries nor did they provide his age.  

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.30pm on Thursday, 21 December, 2023, we received a report that a man had been seriously assaulted in Westmuir Street, Glasgow.

"He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

"The road is closed and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 12:31 to attend an incident on Westmuir Street, Parkhead, Glasgow.

"Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”

Meanwhile local First Bus services were diverted including srvices 2, 43, 46, 60 and 60A.
