Glasgow residents are no longer “living in fear” over rats in their bins.

Neighbours have been left “relieved” after the council finally collected their rubbish in Pollok.

We previously reported how vermin took advantage of mounting waste, after some bins were not collected - since allegedly November.

It comes as staff shortages, caused by holidays and sickness, along with bad weather caused delays according to the council.

Now residents have thanked the Glasgow Times for their coverage after the bins were collected on Saturday and Sunday, January 6 and 7.

Peter Jordan previously said the rubbish was giving him anxiety and is now looking forward to "getting back to his life".

The 65-year-old said: “I feel relieved that the rubbish is gone, I think it happened because the Glasgow Times got involved.

“Rat traps have also been put out which is good, I hope that the problem goes away soon.

“I just want to get back to living my life and hopefully now we can do that.”

One anonymous neighbour said: “Thank you [Glasgow Times] for your help, the bin men appeared and emptied the bins.

“Thank you again from myself and Peter and the rest of the neighbours at Waterfoot Avenue and terrace you are a star.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “We can confirm household bins on Waterfoot Avenue were cleared over the weekend.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the delay to collections.

"There are currently delays to collections across the city following the festive holidays with staff illness, annual leave and recent snow also causing disruption to the service.”
