A Glasgow-based social enterprise wants to combat the winter blues for those aged 65 and above over a cup of tea at a popular shopping centre in the city centre.

No.1 Befriending Agency, which forms connections and companionship among seniors, will hold its Cup of Friendship event on January 15 at Buchanan Galleries.

The event is aimed at providing a safe location for them to connect and engage over a cup of tea.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Manager at Buchanan Galleries, said: “Whether you’re interested in arts and crafts, reminiscing about the good old days, or simply enjoy a friendly chat, No.1 Befriending Agency’s Cup of Friendship event is a great way beat the January blues.

“The event aims to counteract one of the gloomiest days in the calendar and turn it into a joyful day creating colourful friendships and connections, over a warming cup of tea.

"We encourage those who are looking to brighten up their Monday to join us and discover all the benefits of befriending with No.1 Befriending Agency.”

Two sessions are scheduled for the day, from 10am to 12 noon, and 1pm to 3pm.

The morning session includes an hour of creativity with arts and crafts. Additional activities include volunteer-led chats and board games.

The afternoon session, running from 1pm to 3pm, will feature content revolving around retail, shopping and groceries on the big screen. One-to-one conversations with volunteers will also be made available to participants.

Shonagh Hendry, from No.1 Befriending Agency, said: "Here at No.1 Befriending Agency, we're thrilled to host the 'Cup of Friendship' event at Buchanan Galleries, tackling winter blues head-on.

"Our goal is simple: to create a space where isolated older people can enjoy cups of tea, engage in arts and crafts, and share cherished memories.

"As we continue our mission against loneliness, we invite everyone to join us in turning Blue Monday into a day of vibrant connections and shared joy."
