A STRETCH of a busy walkway in Clydebank has closed as it undergoes an 'exciting' upgrade.
Part of the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath – from Whitecrook Street to Braes Avenue – is currently shut as phase one of a £500,000 project to reconstruct and improve the path gets underway.
Scottish Canals, the public body that manages the canal network on behalf of the Scottish Government, said the work is made possible through a £500k investment from the government via Sustrans Scotland’s Network Development Fund.
Improvements will be carried out by Mackenzie Construction Limited and will span from Whitecrook Street going east towards Blairdardie.
What work is being done?
- Future-proofing the towpath by introducing lighting ducts
- Tree root protection will be provided where mature trees have distorted the towpath surface.
Diversion routes will be signed.
