Bishopton Primary School has been applauded by elected members and senior officers for its performance in an inspection.

The school in Old Greenock Road received a ‘very good’ in three categories and a ‘good’ in one other – prompting an array of plaudits at the education and children’s services policy board on Thursday.

A team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited the school in September and found a number of strengths in its work.

These included the head teacher and senior leaders encouraging and supporting staff to take responsibility for leading improvements and staff feeling trusted to lead changes to improve and enhance learning experiences.

Staff were said to use a range of nurturing approaches to maintain a positive and supportive environment, which children responded well to and have been able to progress as a result.

Councillor Emma Rodden, SNP education convener, said: “This inspection is absolutely amazing given the circumstances that they are operating in.

“It’s been very, very challenging times for them for obvious reasons.

“To see this great report come out from the inspection, thank you so much to all the staff, all the parent community and, most of all, thank you to all the children at Bishopton.”

Councillor Gillian Graham, Labour group education spokesperson added: “I’d just reinforce what you’ve said, convener, it’s a wonderful report.

“It’s great for stuff because it is very anxiety provoking taking part in these inspections and to get results like that – three very goods and a good – is superb. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

The inspection also found children to be confident, articulate, and happy in school, while high levels of attainment were discovered in literacy and numeracy.

Janie O’Neill, the council’s director of children’s services, said: “Seeing that report and reading all the positives, it’s a real reflection of what an excellent school community that is. I commend them.”
