A pensioner has died after a fire broke out at a Glasgow flat.

The 72-year-old passed away after the blaze started in his home on Napier Drive.

We reported how emergency services swarmed the area, evacuating neighbours at around 3pm on Friday, January 12.

The man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while three others were also injured.

Now we can confirm he sadly passed away four days later on Tuesday, 16 January.

Enquiries were carried out and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3pm on Friday, 12 January, 2024, police were called to a report of a fire at a property in Napier Drive, Glasgow.

“A 72-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, where he subsequently died on Tuesday, 16 January, 2024.

“Enquiries were carried out and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

“A report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.49pm on Friday, January 12 to reports of a dwelling fire at Napier Drive, Glasgow.

"Operations Control initially mobilised three appliances and specialist resources to the scene and on arrival firefighters requested further assistance.

"Six appliances and specialist resources in total worked to extinguish a fire affecting a property on the first floor of a four-storey tenement building.

"Four casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews remain on the scene to dampen down any remaining hotspots".

"Neighbouring properties have been evacuated."
