It's nearly time to clear your cupboard of eggs, butter and fat before they're banned for Lent.

Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) is almost a week earlier than last year, falling on February 13, 2024.

The age-old tradition is observed the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, which lasts for 40 days leading up to Easter.

Whether you're giving up meat, fish, eggs and fats for six weeks or just fancy a delicious stack of pancakes, here are the seven best places to check out around the city.

Cafe Strange Brew

1082 Pollokshaws Rd, Shawlands, Glasgow G41 3XA

Open seven days a week, this Southside brunch spot has creative pancake stacks with combinations that change with the seasons.

The cafe is walk-in only so be prepared to wait for a table.

Bramble Cafe

924 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow G41 2ET

Also in the Southside, also likely to have a queue, is Bramble Cafe.

The walk-in-only cafe is open 7 days a week with rotating specials. Expect fluffy pancakes with indulgent toppings or crepes stuffed with fillings like berry compote and swirled cheesecake.

Urban West

537 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 8HN

For American-style pancakes, head to this West End cafe. You'll find several topping options including the classic combo of smoked bacon, blueberries and syrup.

KoKo House

175 Great George St, Hillhead, Glasgow G12 8AQ

Specialising in Japanese souffle pancakes, this West End outlet has developed a cult following since it opened in 2020.

The tall and pillowy pancakes have caused a stir on social media - at Koko House, they are piled high and topped with everything from fruit to chewy tapioca pearls.

Scran

239 London Rd, Glasgow G40 1PE

Unfortunately, Scran is not open on Tuesdays. But if you missed the big day and fancy some delicious American-style pancakes after browsing the Barras on the weekend, head to this gem.

Toppings include pistachio and shortbread crumble, hot caramel apples, and torched meringue among others.

Tribeca Diner

102 Dumbarton Rd, Glasgow G11 6NX

The Amerian-style brunch diner in Partick is always a go-to for Pancake Day.  They have loads of choice toppings to accompany their buttermilk pancake stacks.

El Jefe

1166-1170 Argyle St, Finnieston, Glasgow G3 8TE

Okay, it's not a breakfast restaurant. But if you're up for trying something a bit out there this Pancake Day, El Jefe's is running a pancake special for one day only. The three specials include a chocolate ganache with frozen watermelon and cherry lime caviar, beef brisket with queso sauce and cookies and cream with avocado and lime frosting.

Stack & Still

100 West George Street, Glasgow City Centre, G2 1PJ

Last but not least, the "pancake pioneers" at Stack & Still have more pancake combinations than you could ever hope for.

Since launching in Glasgow in 2018, the chain has opened more than six locations in the UK.
