FORENSICS officers have been pictured in Motherwell after a 'burned' body was found on a football pitch. 

We previously reported cops were called to Margaret Drive area of the town after the discovery was made at around 9am this morning.

It is understood the body had been set on fire. Police were unable to confirm if the body is that of a male or female.

Pictures from the scene show officers standing guard around the field which has been taped off. 

Forensics officers have been spotted alongside a van from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Fire Investigation Unit. 

Pictures also show two tents erected on the grass.

Police said the death is currently being treated as unexplained and an investigation is ongoing. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Saturday, February 24, 2024 a body was discovered in the Margaret Drive area of Motherwell. 

"Officers are at the scene.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing."
