HUGE piles of rubbish dumped behind a flat block in Drumchapel have been branded as ‘shocking but not surprising'.

The litter – which includes household waste, furniture, and children’s toys - has been fly-tipped on the land at the back of 39 Linkwood Crescent.

Images show rubbish strewn across the grass and tangled in trees.

Glasgow Times: Local councillor Paul Carey told the Glasgow Times he is “shocked” at the sheer volume that has been dumped but says it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Cllr Carey said: “I am absolutely shocked at the amount of rubbish that has been dumped at this location.

“It is quite clear that it has blown all over the place. I have been in contact with Wheatley Housing Glasgow – who owns 39 Linkwood Crescent - and Glasgow City Council (GCC) to get this cleaned as soon as possible.

“However, I must stress that this is not a complete surprise. Ever since the SNP/Green administration removed the bins from poles throughout the city and introduced charging for bulk uplift along with missing bin collections over the Christmas period this has contributed to illegal dumping."

Glasgow Times: A Glasgow City Council spokesperson confirmed that the local authority is aware of this issue and that it will be dealt with.

They went on to add that despite most people taking care of the environment research has indicated that “litter is dropped every three seconds” in the city.

Glasgow Times: The statement reads: “We are aware of this situation and we will respond appropriately. There is never an excuse for littering or fly-tipping.

"Everyone has a basic responsibility to dispose of their waste in the proper manner at all times.

“The vast majority of people take care of their environment but research indicates that litter is dropped every three seconds in Glasgow.

“The minority of people who drop litter or fly-tip waste should be in doubt over the upset caused by their anti-social behaviour.”
