A charity is inviting the Glasgow community to its open day at the newly renovated Skills and Community Hub at Glasgow Fort.

The open day by Fare will take place on Thursday, February 29, between 1pm and 5pm.

Fare helps the local community with career support and aids individuals facing employment barriers by finding work opportunities, providing training courses and application assistance.

Phil Goodman, centre director at Glasgow Fort, said: "The Hub’s upcoming open day is a great opportunity for individuals to come down and chat to friendly experts about how to make the next step in their career or get onto the employment ladder."

Among the services provided include CV support, training courses and work-related qualifications.

The charity's partners, Glasgow Kelvin College and Skills Development Scotland, will also be present to provide additional assistance.

From 10am to 12pm, Fare will host employers at a separate drop in session to give attendees opportunities to learn about the charity's recruitment process and how to advertise vacancies through them.

Since its opening at Glasgow Fort in May 2022, the charity has helped more than 1,000 individuals struggling with employment, delivering more than 550 work-based qualifications, helping about 400 people to enter further education or training, and guided 140 people into work.

It also signposts those in need for financial support.

Karen Timoney, employability manager at FARE Skills and Community Hub, said: "It’s been truly rewarding to offer guidance to over 1,000 people of all different ages and backgrounds since we launched in 2022 and we’ve met some really inspiring people along the way. Glasgow Fort is a great base for our work, and we’re excited to see where the future takes us.”

Abbie McClung, modern apprentice at FARE Scotland, said the support she received got her to where she is today.

She added: “From one-to-one support on the application process to taking a childcare course which increased my experience, the team has been there every step of the way and has made me feel more confident in myself whilst also sparking my love for working in childcare.”
