A Glasgow housing professional has been shortlisted for the Special Recognition Award at the 13th Scottish Empty Homes Awards.

Barry Sweeney, from Homes for Good, has been integral in reinstating empty homes back into use across the city.

Homes for Good is a Glasgow letting agent and property management company.

This year’s award ceremony will take place in Glasgow on February 29 as part of the annual Scottish Empty Homes Conference.

Lisa Borthwick, national manager for Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, said: "Barry is a talented, committed, and inspirational housing professional who has made a significant contribution to empty homes work in Scotland.

“Our annual awards, the highlight of our conference, are our chance to recognise the great successes that have happened in empty homes in Scotland and Barry is a brilliant example of someone leading this work."

The conference, themed Learning from the Past – Visions for the Future, will consider the successes in empty homes work to date and look to the future of its role in addressing Scotland’s housing issues.

Since 2014, Mr Sweeney has worked with Homes for Good, with his influence extending to the creation of an impactful tool that aids property owners to understand and manage renovation processes.

Over the past year, he has reintegrated 24 empty homes, 15 of which were empty for a long-term.

His developed tool is set to be shared widely, promoting further reclamation of empty homes across the sector.
