A new heating system that allows Glasgow residents greater control over their temperature settings has been installed in more than 7,000 local homes.

Named Connected Response, the system has been introduced by Wheatley Homes Glasgow, a part of Wheatley Group – Scotland's leading housing, care, and property-management body.

Connected Response technology is integrated into homes equipped with electric storage heaters and allows residents to customise their heating.

The revolutionary system not only gives residents control but also allows them to use and pay for only the energy they require.

In fact, users have the option to utilise cheaper tariff periods during the day or night.

Studies have shown that Connected Response can reduce energy use by as much as 30 per cent.

Local resident and beneficiary of the system, Patricia Greene was visited by Councillor Susan Aitken, who highlighted Ms Greene's adept use of the technology.

The 70-year-old, from Mount Florida, was the 7,000th tenant to have Connected Response.

Speaking about the heating system, she highlighted the value of the advanced technology.

She said: "I think Connected Response is good, and it will make a difference.

"The fact the system adjusts to the local weather and charges based on the next day’s temperature is great.

"Being warmer and saving money would be great – and doing it with green energy is even better."

Councillor Aitken, the leader of Glasgow City Council, praised the system.

She said: "It was great to meet Patricia, who's already a fantastic ambassador for this technology, which is making a real difference to the lives of Wheatley Homes Glasgow tenants."

She also applauded Connected Response's role in reducing energy costs and carbon emissions in the city.

The innovative system is part of Wheatley Group's 'Greener Homes, Greener Lives' initiative.

The Group is investing £100 million in sustainability programmes to contribute to their aim of becoming carbon neutral and eradicating fuel poverty.

This initiative has been supported by the Scottish Government's 'Social Housing Net Zero Fund,' benefitting Wheatley customers across Glasgow.

Frank McCafferty, Wheatley Group director of repairs and assets, highlighted the necessity of initiatives reducing residents' energy costs.

He said: "It’s important we do everything we can to tackle fuel poverty in our communities and reduce the cost of running a home for our tenants.

"Connected Response makes a real difference to those tenants with electric storage heaters, while also helping the environment by reducing carbon emissions."

Wheatley Homes Glasgow plans to have Connected Response installed in 8,000 Glasgow homes by March 2024.

To further aid its tenants, Wheatley Homes Glasgow also offers a free fuel advice service.

The service, which gives advice on heating homes and managing low-cost repayments if tenants fall behind with payments, has saved Wheatley Homes Glasgow tenants more than £300,000 in the past 12 months.
